The School of Praise

“Hey, when you’ve got it, you’ve got it.”

It’s almost the new school year, meaning the end of our summer days at the beach and back to the books.

Our youngest daughter isn’t too worried about the strains of studying. In fact, when a friend of ours told us that her son, who is entering third grade, had been upset about his average marks in second grade, not the top marks he wanted, our 10-year-old told the mother not to worry.

Our daughter, who is more experienced in school after having graduated fifth grade, told the mother that her son should try to cozy up to the teacher.

The mother said, “But that’s being the teacher’s pet, and that shouldn’t really be the way to do it, should it?”

My daughter shrugged her shoulders and said, “Well, it works for me.”
