Boys in the Bin

“Yeah, girls stick together.”

My youngest daughter brought a friend home from school, and in the car the nine-year-olds sat in the back chatting about an emerging topic for their age: boys.

“What if there was a boy sat next to you?” my daughter asked her friend.

“That would be yucky,” the friend said.

They laughed.

“What if he was your boyfriend?” my daughter asked.

“Yuck!”

My daughter said there’s a boy who likes her friend.

“Yeah, I know,” the friend said. “But I’m not letting him like me. All I do is bother him.”

“Yeah, that’s what we have to do to boys. We have to bother them.”

“Never kiss them.”

“No way, yuck, yuck, yuckity yuck!”
