The Teenager

“What was that?”

My wife told me to come and watch our eldest daughter water the garden in Pinamar, on the coast of Argentina.

I sat down to watch.

The 14-year-old had got the hose wrapped around a tree, and in her meandering to water different plants the hose was now wrapped around her legs.

She looked over at us on the patio with a confused smile, seeming to ask how to unwrap herself from the coil of hose without falling down.

“Should we help her?” I asked my wife.

“Nah, it’s more fun to watch.”
